Dr. S with studentsThroughout the Fall, music teachers from CRLS have been taking students to visit their upper school peers throughout the city. Mr. Powers, Ms. Umbro, Dr. Stefanov and their students have been meeting and performing with students from VLUS, RAUC, CSUS, PAUS, and the Amigos school. These efforts are aimed at making connections with the future Falcons, as well as advising them on the musical opportunities that await them at CRLS. So far, students at the middle schools have said that they have learned a lot from their new mentors and can’t wait to join them in the Bands, Orchestra, and Choruses. The CRLS students involved have also enjoyed their time with their future band mates. Sophomore saxophonist Jasper Duval related, “A lot of the kids seem invested in music and want to learn more. I really saw a great community and can’t wait for them to join us.”

Music program veteran, senior Marta Siemieniaka reflected, “I found it fascinating to discover what the music department at Vassal Lane was like. I enjoyed working on their repertoire. I found the personal connection meaningful and hope that it helps the understand the opportunities available to them at CRLS.”
