Performing at the Holocaust Memorial

holocaust memorial performanceLast week, our CRLS Orchestra, under the direction of Ms. Laura Umbro, performed at a Holocaust Memorial event at Temple Beth Shalom in Cambridge. Freshman violinist, Lamisha Khan reflected upon the event:

"Performing at the Holocaust Memorial at Temple Beth Shalom on Tremont Street was an amazing experience for our orchestra. We all learned a lot from the experience, and paid our respects to the survivors and victims of this gruesome past. We will never forget. I remember after performing, a woman tapped my fellow orchestra member and friend, Sabrina and I, and thanked us in the sincerest voice for the performance. I was extremely touched at the sentiment, and that was when the thought occurred to me that the performance truly meant something more for many in the audience, and that the crowd truly appreciated it. After playing, many students including me stayed for a bit, or for longer, to listen to the speeches afterward. The next speaker was Holocaust survivor Aron Greenfield. He did a phenomenal job speaking to us about his past and the history and truths behind this genocide. I learned a lot from his words, and the way he spoke captivated and educated us all as a collective. All in all, this experience was sad but very heart warming and left me feeling happy that I could play a part in a beautiful performance and service like this. I'm grateful to have been in it."
