2015 National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

CarnegieThree students of CRLS photography teacher Debi Milligan won National Medals from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards: Lucas Gibson (Gold Medal), Noah Beckert (Silver Medal), Sam Brill-Weil (Silver Medal). Noah, Sam, parents and their teacher, Debi Milligan, went to New York for the National Awards ceremony which was held at Carnegie Hall on June 11.

There were more than 300,000 entries nationwide in 2015 with about 1800 winning national awards in New York.  Students and educators from all over the United States attended the event. Whoopie Goldberg, Chelsea Clinton, Pulitzer Prize winning poet Vijay Seshadri, Sculptor Donald Lipski spoke at the ceremony. The Awards celebrate the visionary talent of student artists and writers and support the next generation of leaders in the Arts. LucasArtists who have won awards in the past when they were students include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Joyce Carol Oates, John Baldessari, Robert Redford, Richard Avedon and many more.
