Favorite Class at CRLS
Though I loved all subjects except for math (sorry), my favorite subject overall was history. I find the connections and similarities between events and societies fascinating. I love it when I discover influences from other countries or time periods in my daily life.

Favorite Teacher
I loved and am eternally grateful for almost every staff member I came across at CRLS, but the staff members that made my time at school enjoyable and successful were Dr. Finn, Ms. Dorritie, and Gloria Thompson.

Dr. Finn was the best guidance counselor imaginable. His door was always open; he was constantly supportive, encouraging, and open to my suggestions and wishes. He set me up for success in life and I will never forget how hopeful and motivated he made me feel about my future. Ms. Dorritie helped me find my true love for the environment and the plants and animals within it. Ms. Dorritie inspired me to take an AP science class, apply for my first job and internship, and plant insane amounts of chard in pots in my porch. Her class led me to environmental appreciation and activism that will last for the rest of my life. Gloria worked at the cafeteria serving me lunch beginning when I was in early elementary school. Having the same friendly face greet me every day during lunch and ask me how my day was going helped make CRLS feel more stable as teachers and classmates changed each semester. Having the opportunity to have a caring staff member monitor my well-being each day made my fourteen years at CPS feel more at home.

What are some of the out-of-school time (OST) programs that you participated in between grades 6 - 12?
West Cambridge Youth Center

How did being enrolled in any OST program(s) contribute to your success in and out of high school?
Having a place to have academic support as well as dependable nutrition, exercise, and social opportunities helped ground me during middle school. I loved to curl up in a bean bag in a corner and read a book during homework time, Having caring staff members to have intelligent conversations about what I was reading helped deepen my learning and set me up for rigorous courses at the high school.

What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
My favorite thing about CRLS was the bright and colorful building. Having such a beautiful learning space with so many plants and pieces of art made each day more pleasant.

What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
One thing that many people do not know about CRLS is that the librarians are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They always knew the perfect book to recommend to me even though I mostly only enjoy depressing history and historical fiction books.

Advice to Incoming Freshmen
I would tell freshmen to ask for help and advice from any staff member related to the activities that they are interested in. Almost every staff member that I came across who was involved in extracurricular activities was encouraging and helpful to me. Creating a connection with teachers was crucial in succeeding in out of class activities.
