Sam Wachman, a Senior at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, has earned a national Gold Medal Portfolio in the 2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Sam submitted a portfolio of eight works of creative writing, which earned a Gold Key in the Massachusetts regional awards and now has received the highest national honor. The Gold Medal Portfolio is given to sixteen graduating seniors - eight writers and eight artists - whose portfolio of work exemplifies the Scholastic Awards' core criteria: originality, technical skill, and emergence of personal vision or voice.

This year, nearly 350,000 works of art and writing were submitted. The winners' work is identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. Less than 1% were recognized at the national level.

Sam has been invited to attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, June 7. He has also received a significant scholarship for his achievement.

His Teacher Sponsor, Ariel Maloney, reflected, "Although I was his teacher sponsor for this award, I know I am not the only educator at CRLS who has worked with Sam and recognizes his immense talent. Please join me in offering him a well-deserved congratulations!"
