FOCRLS End-of-School-Year Wrap-Up

FOCRLS End-of-School-Year Wrap-Up
Posted on 06/04/2018
Dear Friends,

Happy end-of-the-school-year! The school year is winding down, but Friends of CRLS is busy year-round. Like the diligent students and faculty we serve, even as we reflect on our accomplishments of this past school year, we need to keep one eye on the future, planning for the next school year and beyond.

That's why when we sum up the role played by Friends of CRLS, a parent-founded non-profit established in 2006, we use one word that's set in the present and one word that looks toward the future: ACCESS and INVESTMENT. Simply put, we provide ACCESS to the resources that profoundly impact students’ aspirations and we reach out to the wider Cambridge community to INVEST in CRLS students’ success at school and in life.

Here are just a few examples of over 100 exciting opportunities we offered this school year to students and faculty:

FACULTY INNOVATION GRANTS: 14 grants, each up to $1,000, including the “Mountain Classroom Experience,” for students to learn environmental science, ecology, leadership, and teambuilding by exploring nature in Western Mass., and “Bike Advocacy Club Helmets,” to provide 30 bike helmets for Student Bike Advocates to customize for bike safety promotion events to increase enthusiasm for helmet wearing.

STUDENT TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS: Funding for eight academically qualified students needing financial support in order to participate in group trips with CRLS peers and faculty to Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands and England, Ireland & Wales.

UNSUNG HEROES: Three family breakfasts honoring 48 students for emerging leadership and camaraderie with their peers.

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS: 37 scholarships recognizing excellence in academics, community service, personal grit in the face of challenge, professional goals, and financial obstacles to higher education.

FACULTY DISTINCTION AWARDS: Seniors have recently completed nominations for the teachers and staff members who have had the most positive influence on their years at CRLS, and the four awardees selected will soon be honored on the graduation ceremony stage on Thursday, June 7.

Friends of CRLS made all of this happen — but your donations are what made all of this possible!

Thank you to our many generous donors throughout the school year!

And let's not forget the investment of time....

Thank you to our many wonderful and energetic volunteers! We hope that you’ll continue to volunteer; please email us to let us know you'll help us during the 2018-19 school year. Best wishes to our graduating student volunteers!

We're always happy to welcome new volunteers! If you'd like to invest your time with us, please email us or call 857.235.9290. Student volunteers receive community service credit; please be sure to have FOCRLS sign your form.

We wish you all a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you in the fall!

Gratefully,

Elaine Schear, Ed.D.
