From the Superintendent: Take survey on school schedules

From the Superintendent: Take survey on school schedules
Posted on 11/28/2018
Dear CRLS Community:

I hope that you enjoyed a happy Thanksgiving and restful break. As I mentioned last week, work continues on our Quality Learning and Professional Time initiative. Most of the work over the last few months has focused on improvements to the elementary and upper school schedules.

Please note: No significant changes to the length of the CRLS school day for students are under consideration at this time. Based on stakeholder feedback, we know the developmental, educational, and scheduling issues at the high school level are different and need to be considered separately. We are not currently contemplating an extension of the school day for high school students nor an immediate change to the block schedule.

That said, we are beginning the conversation about a smaller set of questions applicable to the high school about professional time and improvements to the current use of time within the block schedule. Please share your thoughts on the current high school schedule through this survey that will be open from Wednesday, November 28 through Friday, December 7, 2018:

Learning & Professional Time Survey

In the coming weeks, we will announce additional opportunities for the high school community to discuss these issues, including ways to capture students’ perspective.

To personally answer any questions that you may have, members of the District Leadership will be attending an upcoming School Council Meeting. We will continue to share updates as we seek to improve the use of learning and professional time in CPS. You may find it helpful to read the information posted on our website, although it is primarily focused on the earlier grades.

I look forward to continuing this important process with you.

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
