Favorite subject at CRLS
Carpentry
Why is it your favorite subject?
Because I can relax from purely academic classes and create physical items that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. Furthermore, the class has a very strong sense of community and great student-teacher relationships.
Favorite CRLS Staff Person
Mr. Roldan
What makes that staff person so special?
Mr. Roldan went above and beyond his job duties: he provided support to me throughout a lot of challenges I went through in high school and did his best to support my goals of taking classes at Harvard.
Extracurricular activities, clubs, school-related activities
Orchestra
What were some of the out-of-school time (O.S.T) programs that you participated in anytime between grades 6-12?
Harvard physics research, food pantry volunteering, climate activism at Sunrise, Python tutoring at GBStem
How did being enrolled in any O.S.T. program(s) contribute to your success both in and out of high school?
These were all activities that I did mainly for fun; I think that you should not do extracurriculars for the sole purpose of getting into college. Most of these activities taught me a lot and also gave me motivation outside of school.
What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
I admire how CRLS can work for students who do not fit in to the norm, whether they are above or below their grade level. Many other high schools do not let their students take college classes.
What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school Why?
CRLS is what you make of it: there are many opportunities that you will not be able to take advantage of unless you talk to teachers, your advisors, and fellow students.
What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?
Watch out for grade inflation!
