Favorite subject at CRLS
Biology

Why is it your favorite subject?
The biology department at CRLS is amazing. From Biotechnology to Anatomy and Physiology, I have been able to take such a wide variety of biology classes with teachers who are really knowledgeable and passionate about their subject. I also love the complexity of biology. Many of the biological processes that we take for granted are extremely intricate and have become optimized for a precise function through evolution, and I find that really fascinating.

Favorite CRLS Staff Person
Kara Brown, Mr. Kreuser, Mr. Porreca, Ms. Arocho, Ms. Borrelli

What makes that staff person so special?

I have had so many great teachers during my time at CRLS that it is hard to choose a single favorite. Kara is an amazing person who truly cares about all of the athletes at CRLS. I have visited Kara quite a bit for various bumps and bruises throughout my high school career, and she has been so incredibly helpful every time I see her. Shout out to Mary and Maya too! Ms. Borrelli and Ms. Arocho are both so passionate about biology, and their fascination for biology is infectious. It is hard not to love their classes! Lastly, Mr Kreuser and Mr. Porreca helped facilitate my transition to high school. Coming to Rindge was a somewhat daunting experience, but Mr. Kreuser and Mr. Porreca's humor and care for their students made the transition to high school much easier.

Extracurricular activities, clubs, school-related activities

Hockey (captain), Baseball, Jewish Heritage Club, CRLS Consent Workshop Facilitator, Coach in Cambridge Youth Hockey

What were some of the out-of-school time (O.S.T) programs that you participated in anytime between grades 6-12?
N/A

How did being enrolled in any O.S.T. program(s) contribute to your success both in and out of high school?
N/A

What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
I really like how friendly everyone is at CRLS. All of the staff members genuinely want to get to know you and help you in whatever way they can, which makes you feel as though you are in a community rather than just a school.

What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
CRLS has such a wide breadth of opportunities in a variety of different areas, but no one is going to hold your hand through all of those opportunities. It is up to you to take advantage of the opportunities at your disposal, so do not be afraid to put yourself out there! You are much more likely to regret never trying something than to regret trying something you did not like.

What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?
The middle schools in Cambridge push a narrative that high school is when things really start to "matter." I was sold the idea that my performance in high school would determine the outcome of my future, and as a result, I entered high school with a lot of anxiety surrounding academics. Now, I am not saying that you should not take high school seriously, but finding balance is far more important than academic performance. Work hard, but also enjoy yourself. Do the things you love, and do not stress over a couple of points in one of your classes. Your happiness is far more important than a 4.0.
