Favorite subject at CRLS
Science!
Why is it your favorite subject?
I have had so many amazing science classes over the years with awesome teachers who taught me how to think about complex concepts. For example, brain and behavior with Ms. Augustine was such a great class! I loved learning about drug interactions at synapses and the auditory and visual cortices, among other things.
Favorite CRLS Staff Person
Ms. Divelbliss, Mr. Yeboah
What makes that staff person so special?
Ms. D has been one of my favorite teachers from day one of high school. The dance studio has always felt like such a welcoming space because of her and Dr. Thigpen, and I am so grateful to have been able to take dance classes with her throughout the years. Working with Ms. D as part of MDC has been such a positive experience, and I will always admire her drive, determination, and unwavering support for all of her dancers.
Mr. Yeboah was my ELA 11 and later my AP Lang teacher, and walking into his classroom always felt like a breath of fresh air. The fairy lights are always on, Mr. Yeboah always has a fun sweater, and the vibes are just there. I always felt like I could ask Mr. Yeboah for help with anything, whether it was English-related or not. He also gave me feedback on my essays that helped me so much in becoming a better writer, which is something I appreciate so much going into college.

What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
My favorite part of CRLS was the Modern Dance Company. I auditioned for MDC at the beginning of my 9th grade year and the studio immediately became the place I wanted to spend my time at because the dance community was so welcoming and supportive. I am so glad I have been able to keep dancing more and more each year and help lead as an upperclassmen. I have made some of my best friends through MDC, and so many of my long-lasting high school memories are from dance.
What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
I think people unfamiliar with CRLS should know that the resources for anything you need help with are there, you just have to find them. There are always ways to get back on track with schoolwork, join extracurriculars, etc, so it is important to look into who to reach out to about what. Almost any teacher or staff member will be willing to help direct you, and CRLS can help you with things like work permits, summer opportunities, and so much more when you find the right place to go to ask.
What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?
Do not be afraid to try some new activities! Even if you end up not being into everything you try, there is no harm in trying out for a sport or joining a club just to see if it might be your thing. Also, audition for Modern Dance Company if you are looking for the coolest people at CRLS to spend your time with! Whether you have danced your whole life or never stepped into a studio, you are wanted in the arts basement!
