Over
125 Cambridge middle school students will attend the Breakthrough
Cambridge (BTC) Summer Program for six weeks from July 5th through
August 12th. The Summer Program is the most intensive piece of BTC’s
tuition-free, year-round programs. BTC offers 7th through 12th graders a
ladder of academic opportunities focused on creating excitement around
learning and paths to four-year college.
Over the summer,
students take math, writing and literature classes, and select science
and social studies electives from a broad range of offerings. Summer
electives explore distinct topics ― such as Genetics, Brain Science, or
18th-19th Century Slave Rebellions — yet emphasize core academic skills
that prepare students for challenging high school classes.
New
for BTC third-year students this summer is a unique pre-high school
course. In addition to their five core classes, the 30 rising 9th
graders will participate in a dedicated High School Readiness Class,
with workshops and special experiences to prepare them for new freedom
and opportunities at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.
Visitors
are welcome to see the Breakthrough Summer Program, housed at the
Kennedy-Longfellow School, almost any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday,
July 12th through August 5th. Appointments are necessary, and the ideal
visiting time is 11:30AM - 12:40PM. Contact BTC Development Director Laurie Rothstein at 617.349.6647 to schedule your visit. Click here for more information about BTC.
