Specialized Courses

Studying Skillful Teaching: This course, from Research for Better Teaching, is their cornerstone offering for building teachers’ capacity to positively impact student learning. Suzanne Russell and Jenny Chung-Greenfield, the CPS In-District-Trainers, teach this course each year. The 2019 - 2020 course will run July 9-12 at the Haggerty School Library, from 8:30AM - 3PM. There will be 4 additional after school days to be scheduled during the fall. Participants must commit to the entire course in order to receive credit. Teachers who have taken the course see it’s impact, as do administrators (watch a video) in our schools. Watch a video about what teachers say about studying skillful teaching and administrator feedback about the impact of studying skillful teaching.

Cultural Proficiency: Educator Leaders 4 Equity (EL4E): This course was designed by CPS educators based on survey data collected from over 500 faculty. The educators surveyed were clear that this work begins with them and must take place in their schools. The course is also consistent with the district plan to provide “all CPS educators with cultural proficiency training” and our new definition of equity and racial equity.

The Educator Leaders 4 Equity from each school are well equipped to lead and support the ongoing work in their buildings to make learning culturally responsive and appropriate for all students. The first cohort was trained in 2017- 2018. Cohort 2 - expanded to include family liaisons and paraprofessionals - finished in the spring of 2019.
