Watch for Bikes

Watch for Bikes

Dear Parents/Guardians/Caretakers:

Many people in our community -- both at our school and Cambridge in general -- are walking and bicycling to get around town. This is terrific, as that way they are able to get some physical exercise and enjoy being outdoors, in addition to reducing the traffic on our roads.

For those of you who choose to or must drive, I would like to convey a friendly reminder to make sure to exercise caution on our city streets, particularly if you are dropping off or picking up children from school. Please look carefully to see if there are any people biking or walking around before you pull in or out of a parking space or turn onto a side street. Make sure that you pull over snugly against the curb and never stop in a bike lane, vehicle travel lane, or block a crosswalk or handicap ramp. Always look behind you for people biking before opening your car door. Please remind your children to look before opening their door. If students are in the back seat, please have them exit on the side of the vehicle that is not adjacent to the bicycle lane.

Together, we can make our streets more comfortable, safe, and convenient for all users! For more information on sustainable transportation in Cambridge, please look to the City's website

Thank you and drive safely.
