34 CRLS Students won a total of 54 Awards in the 2020 Massachusetts Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Announced this week, CRLS students won 8 Gold Keys, 19 Silver Keys, and 27 Honorable Mention Awards. Students from all across America submitted 320,000 original works this year in 29 different categories of art and writing. Started in 1923, these Awards recognize the vision, imagination and talent of our nation’s students. Students in grades 7–12 applied in 29 categories of art and writing to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited and published. The Gold Key winners from Massachusetts will be juried in New York for National Awards that will be announced March 16. Tufts University will host an exhibit of all of the Massachusetts Gold Key Award winners, including CRLS Gold Key winners, with an Award Ceremony March 14 at Cohen Auditorium Tufts University. The Exhibition will be up from March 14 to March 22 at Breed Memorial Hall at Tufts University, 51 Winthrop Street, Medford, MA 02155. Participating teachers from CRLS this year are Jon Baring-Gould, Melissa Chaney, Amanda Kilton, Michele Watson Maxwell, Deborah Milligan, and Brendon Snyder.

“Each year, increasing numbers of teens participate in the program, and become a part of our community—young artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, video game artists and science fiction writers—along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process.”
