Unicorn BLUEbikes Design Competition Winners
Posted on 10/08/2020
Unicorn BLUEbikes WinnerStudents in the Creative Design class competed in The City of Cambridge BLUEbikes Design Contest last spring. The contest was open to all CRLS high school students. This competition required students to design the look of a special BLUEbike – called a “Unicorn” given its rare and unique nature – to become part of our regional public bike share system, BLUEbikes. Unicorn bikes are specially designed to represent something special in our BLUEbikes system. Your unicorn bike design should represent the Cambridge Community in a creative way!

The design should represent Cambridge and/or the Cambridge community as you see it or would like to portray it. Previous designs have ranged from literal to more conceptual; see our unicorn madness blog post and the 10 million trips bike for examples of previous bikes. They were looking for designs which celebrate what makes our city special.

All the Unicorn BLUEbikes winners were students in the Creative Design Program!

Winning Design $100: Alba Cruz-Pimentel, Sophomore
Second Prize $50: Maxwell Berger, Junior
Third Prize $25 each: Anita Cuddihy, Junior (2 winners)
Third Prize: $25 each: Hector Ruiz, Senior (2 winners)

The purpose of this contest was to create a unique design that celebrates the Cambridge community and highlights what makes our city special. The winning design, hand-drawn by Alba Cruz-Pimentel, will be wrapped onto one of the City’s BLUEbikes this season.

The Cambridge BLUEbikes Unicorn Design Contest was open to all high school students who are residents of Cambridge, and saw a dozen unique designs! The initial intent was that the bike would be unveiled at the Cambridge Youth BLUEbikes Rock ‘N Ride during the Cambridge Science Festival, but as all public events are cancelled during this time, we will look to celebrate at a future event when we are able.
