Summer Reading & Learning 2025

We’re excited to kick off our annual CRLS Summer Reading program with this year’s slogan: Be a CRLS Summer Reader!

Reading during the summer months helps students maintain and strengthen their literacy skills, explore personal interests, and return to school ready to engage with new ideas. Research shows that even just 20 minutes of reading a day can boost comprehension, vocabulary, and empathy; all critical tools for success in school and beyond.

The CRLS English Department recommends that all students read at least three texts over the summer. These can be any titles that spark your interest, student choice is key! Whether you're into graphic novels, memoirs, mysteries, or historical fiction, there’s a book out there for you.

To help you find the perfect summer read, we’re excited to share several resources:
  • Recommendations from current CRLS students and staff – See below for video clips featuring favorite reads!
  • Sora, our digital library app, is available to all CRLS students. Sora includes texts read in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
  • The CRLS Summer Reading Recommendation List, curated by current students, our English teachers, and librarians.
Need a book? Visit any Cambridge Public Library branch for help choosing a title or checking out a book from the list. You can also explore the Little Free Libraries around your neighborhood for new discoveries.

We can’t wait to see what you’ll be reading this summer. Remember—Be a CRLS Summer Reader!
