Favorite Class at CRLS
I really loved the Social Science classes at CRLS. My favorite classes were Model UN with Mr. Racki, Economics with Mr. Kells, and AP Comparative Government with Ms. Hylton. In all of these classes, we studied the way people cooperate and interact within societies for the greater good. In Model UN, we focused on the world’s preeminent political organization. In Comp. Gov. we explored the political organizations in various countries. In Economics, we learned about how the US economic system functions, and different schools of thought with regards to economics. All of these classes made me interested in studying the Social Sciences in college and beyond.

Favorite Teacher
I can’t choose just one favorite teacher, but my two favorite teachers at CRLS have been Mr. Racki and Mr. Benson. However, I also owe a big thank you to Mr. Kells, Ms. Hylton, Dr. Weaver, Ms. Berz, Mr. Casillas, Ms. Reese, Mr. Landwehr, and so many others. All of these teachers helped me a lot during my time at CRLS.

I’ve gotten to know Mr. Racki well through Model UN and as his student, and he is one of the most interesting, thoughtful, and intelligent people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. I’ve spent many great afternoons just sitting in his classroom and talking about everything; news, politics, and just life in general. These talks are one thing about high school I’ll always remember.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Benson for both Calculus and Statistics, and he made me re-think everything I know about math in our world. He is a fantastic teacher, and his classes are interesting and make the complicated concepts accessible. Although he and I antagonize each other and joke around quite a bit in class, it’s all in good fun, and he’s been one of my favorite teachers ever.

What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
My favorite part about CRLS has to be the abundance of interesting classes and activities. At CRLS, we are fortunate to have some amazing classes, and we are adding more every year. I took Model UN with Mr. Racki my senior year, which was a brand new class, and it ended up being one of my favorite classes ever. CRLS also has a ton of great clubs, and students are always doing cool things like flying to DC or New York for a conference. All these opportunities are available to every student, you just have to go and take advantage of them.

What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
CRLS is truly a melting pot. Students and staff come from all over, with such different backgrounds and futures. You will find both like-minded and opposite-minded people, and this makes for really interesting learning and social environments.

Advice to Incoming Freshmen
Get out there! Freshman year you should get involved with a bunch of clubs, sports, musical groups, and more. Just put yourself out there and find out what you do and don’t like. From there you can narrow down and focus on what you really enjoy, but at first, you should try a little bit of everything. High school, and CRLS in particular, has a lot of amazing opportunities to offer. It’s up to you to take advantage of them.
Also, do Model UN. Trust me.
