Semester away programs begin recruiting CRLS students beginning
December – February each year. Students interested in learning more
about semester away programs should register, on Naviance, to attend the
program’s visit to the Career and College Center. Additional
information may be obtained through each program’s website as listed
below. There are tuition fees for attending semester away programs which
are not covered by the school department. Financial aid is available;
you must inquire about financial aid through the individual program. The
following are semester away programs that recruit CRLS students:
The Alzar School is based in Cascade, Idaho and offers semester long experiences for motivated sophomores and juniors. You will tackle all of your traditional classes while developing your personal leadership style through outdoor adventure and cultural exchange. You will be given the opportunity to develop your skills in kayaking, and backpacking to the next level while building confidence and independence alongside students from around the world. In addition, your adventurous semester is punctuated by a five week expedition to Chile where you will immerse yourself in local culture, develop a global perspective, and explore some of the world's most spectacular mountains and rivers. The Island School (for freshman and sophomores)
The
Island School is a mind, body, and spirit journey that takes students
away from traditional high school curriculum and invites them to
confront authentic challenges. Classes are designed to allow first-hand
engagement with the people and environment of The Bahamas. English,
math, environmental art, history, and marine ecology are offered, and
each course focuses on the application of knowledge to real-world
problems. SCUBA diving, island exploration, and two short kayaking
expeditions complement daily morning exercise, science research
projects, and campus work that encourage each student to develop

The Mountain School (for sophomores)
Challenging
academics, outdoor adventure and the opportunity to live and work on an
organic farm for one semester of your junior year. All academic credits
transfer back to your home school and the friends you keep for the rest

City Term (for sophomores and juniors)
City
Term is one semester of high school in NY City where students live and
learn together with students from all over the country. At City Term
high school juniors and seniors use the city as their primary text to
explore literature, history and the urban environment. Students will
also be enrolled in math, language and science while at City Term. The
interdisciplinary and experiential learning at CITY term allows students
to explore NY City and the world around them in entirely new ways while

School of Ethics and Global Leadership (for juniors)
Located
in DC The School for Ethics and Global Leadership (SEGL) is a
selective, semester-long residential program for motivated high school
JUNIORS from across the United States. We select students who have shown
outstanding character, promise for leadership, and scholastic ability;
our students also reflect the racial, socioeconomic, and geographic

NuVu is a full-time innovation school for middle and high school students. NuVu’s pedagogy is based on the architectural Studio model and geared around multi-disciplinary, collaborative projects. We teach students how to navigate the messiness of the creative process, from inception to completion by prototyping and testing. NuVu was founded in 2010 in Cambridge, MA by PhDs and Graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). For the last seven years, NuVu has been providing an innovation-focused experience for students, ages 11-18. NuVu has reached over 3,000 students worldwide, and created and energized a generation of entrepreneurs, designers, makers and inventors. NuVu students are as young as 12 years old and as old as 19 years old. Admission is based on an on-site interview followed by a basic application showing intent to enroll in the program. It is appreciated but not required that applicants send samples of their projects (computer, engineering, music or art-related) to NuVu before scheduling an interview.
