This spring, on the weekend of May 31st, the CRLS Hiking Club took our
first and hopefully annual spring overnight trip to the White Mountains of
New Hampshire. We had initially planned to hike Mt. Washington, but as
is often the case in the mountains, the weather didn’t cooperate, and we
ended up having to pivot to Mt. Pierce. Nevertheless, everyone
persevered through the rain, summiting Mt. Pierce and having a great
time doing so! In addition to Mt. Pierce, we hiked Mt. Willard on our
second day and did a couple of other short hikes to fill some extra time in
the evenings.
The trip proved to be a great bonding experience for everyone involved
and also served to broaden exposure and access to the outdoors. The
following are some photos from the trip, along with quotes from students
about their experiences.
“I am so glad I got to do it for my last week of school and hope that everyone gets the chance to do this in the future.”
“I befriended a lot of new people and realized how beautiful nature can be.”
“Really really fun and rewarding! The environment was really nice all around.”
“It was amazing! I got closer to many of my peers and met new friends.”
“These past few days have been one of the most exhilarating times of high school. Not just as a hike, but as a trip that signified the end of an era for the seniors.”
“The community was amazing. Everyone was so friendly and excited to be there, and the leaders did a wonderful job organizing everything!”
Thank you so much to everyone who made this trip possible! Special thanks to our club advisor, Mr. Gupta, and Brandon Costello (Club President, SY2024-25), who was instrumental in planning and organizing the entire event. We are also grateful to our dedicated chaperones, Jeanne Alailima and Laura Holsen, who generously donated their time and energy.
A huge thank you to Mikayla Galvin, Rebeca Matos, and Oluyemisi Oluwole for their essential support in facilitating the trip.
We are deeply appreciative of the Friends of CRLS, whose grant covered our transportation costs, and the Appalachian Mountain Club, whose grant supported our food and lodging expenses. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the Appalachian Mountain Club for maintaining the beautiful trails we were fortunate to explore.
