Good Evening CRLS Community:
I hope that this message finds you well, and that you are all remaining as engaged as possible in continuing to further your learning while our community faces the ever-changing, difficult realities presented by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
As you may have heard, as of last night, the City of Cambridge has selected the War Memorial building, including the Field House garage, as spaces to support a shelter and medical facility for people who are facing homelessness and may also be showing signs and symptoms of Coronavirus. While this news has come somewhat suddenly, the City is working with us to prepare for two possible scenarios:
- School re-opens in May: The Arts building will remain closed until the medical shelter is fully closed and the occupied spaces have been re-disinfected to protect the health and safety of students and staff. Harvard and MIT Universities have both offered to provide temporary classroom space, if necessary, and we are working to identify a specific plan for this. The details and schedule for relocating classrooms from the Arts Building will be shared when they become available.
- School buildings remain closed: We will continue to further develop and refine learning expectations to ensure that students are supported to meet their educational and future goals, while continuing distance learning at home.
Please do not view this announcement as a sign that a decision has been made to keep school buildings closed for the remainder of the year. That decision has not been made. We are committed to supporting your health, safety, and wellness, whatever else occurs.
