Oh What a Night! A Festive and Number-bending Scholarship Night Gathering at CRLS
Friends of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (FoCRLS) presented nearly $40,000 in scholarships and awards to 31 members of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) Class of 2017 at Scholarship and Award Night, Thursday, May 18. This marks a 23% increase in numbers of scholarships awarded since 2016 and a 1600% increase since 2011, when FOCRLS began its scholarship program with two scholarship awards.
Scholarship and Award Night began with a pre-ceremony reception hosted by FoCRLS in partnership with CRLS. 85 Sponsors, scholarship recipients, families, and city leaders, including Dr. Kenneth Salim, CPS Superintendent, and Mayor Denise Simmons, packed the space in CRLS’s Kimbrough Way (aka "The Bagel Bench") to get acquainted, enjoy refreshments prepared by Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA) culinary students, view displays printed by RSTA print and production students, and to hear brief comments from FoCRLS Executive Director Elaine Schear, Principal Damon Smith, and CRLS Class of 2016 Scholarship recipients Karalynn Ojeda-Pollard and Elmer Vivas Portillo, now winding up their freshman year at Bentley University and Harvard College respectively.
After an inspiring ceremony in the Fitzgerald Theater, where approximately 200 awardees received scholarship certificates for over 100 separate scholarships, a post-ceremony collation in the theater lobby provided opportunities for congratulations, refreshments, cake, and roses.

Congratulations to the 31 Friends of CRLS (FoCRLS) Scholarship Awardees! If you are a FoCRLS scholarship recipient, whether or not you were able to attend Scholarship Night on May 18, FoCRLS sent you a notification and instructions. Please be sure to
email us with your enrollment verification before Monday, July 10 in order to claim your check! Please
