Cambridge Public Schools District Plan

In July 2017, the Cambridge School Committee approved a three-year District Plan for the Cambridge Public Schools.

The plan reflects the perspectives of diverse stakeholders who contributed their insights through a far-reaching process led by Superintendent Salim and his team.

For the 2017-18 School Year, CPS has focused on several priority initiatives in support of our Strategic Objectives. Following are a few of the latest updates.

Equity & Access: Provide equity and access to increase opportunity and achievement

• Equity Initiatives at CRLS: Level Up and 1:1 Technology
• 3-D: Dynamic Diversity Development initiative
• Creation of the position of Program Manager for Diversity Development
• Leadership for Equity training for Principals and Administrators, offered by the Disruptive Equity Education Project (DEEP)
• Cultural Proficiency Train-the-Trainer Program at Wheelock College: Preparing one educator per school to provide cultural proficiency training and coaching within their school community.

Engaging Learning: Provide engaging learning for students and staff to strengthen instruction for all types of learners

• Creation of district Professional Learning Committee to provide educator voice in prioritizing and enhancing professional learning opportunities 
• Exploration of innovative educational solutions via a design mindset at the Innovation and Design Lab

Whole Child as an Individual

• Social Emotional Learning
• Developing District-wide inclusive instructional practices

Family & Community Partnerships

• Deepened collaboration with Community Engagement Team including trainings and panels offered by CET Outreach Workers
• City-wide Advisory Committee on STEAM Education
• Comprehensive review of District & School-based Communications

OUTCOMES

By implementing this plan for all students—providing the tailored instruction and supports each student needs to achieve academically and meet their individual goals—we will accomplish the following outcomes for all students and each student group:

• Grade 3 reading: proficiency
• Grade 8 math: proficiency and growth by student group
• Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors enrollment: proportionality
• Percentage of teachers of color
• School climate survey (TBD): students, staff, and family perceptions
• Students’ meaningful connections with adults (Teen and Middle School Health surveys)
