Greetings CPS Community...
I hope you had a wonderful April vacation and are feeling reenergized to finish the school year strong.
This week, families of students 1st through 5th grade will have an opportunity to learn more about the elementary literacy curriculum, Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), which will be implemented next year. This Thursday, we will host a virtual information session from 6:30 - 7: 30PM.
As you may know, the length of the school day is changing beginning next school year
for preschool through 8th grade. This additional learning time will allow us to comply with state requirements on instructional time, support social and emotional development, and provide needed collaboration time for educators. All preschool, elementary, and upper school students will be dismissed thirty (30) minutes early every Wednesday so that teachers can engage in collaboration and professional learning. The schedule at CRLS will be extended by only 5 minutes, which will go towards instructional time.
Next Monday and Wednesday we will host virtual community information sessions on Extended Learning Time. Each session is organized by triad, however, if you cannot attend one session, feel free to
register for another. We hope to see you there!
Last but not least, this week we celebrate
Administrative Professionals Week (April 22-26). I want to recognize and applaud the hard work and dedication of our school and district clerks. Our clerks are usually the first face to greet you when you enter our schools and buildings, and they are essential to the successful operation of our school communities. We are grateful for them every day!

At Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, the school day will be extended by 5 minutes. This additional time will be used for instruction.

Nominate Your Pick for the Cambridge Athletic Hall of Fame
The Cambridge Athletic Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations for next fall’s Cambridge Athletic Hall of Fame induction.
In order to be considered, nominations are due June 1 either in paper form or via online Google Form and must be complete with all information.
Application Criteria:
- Athletes become eligible 5 years after graduating from Cambridge High & Latin, Rindge Technical and Cambridge Rindge & Latin schools.
- Coaches and teams are eligible for induction five years after leaving Cambridge High & Latin, Rindge Technical or Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (Class of 2019 is eligible).
There are four categories in which you can nominate: Athlete, Coach, Team & Distinguished Contributor. Learn more about the Cambridge Athletic Hall of Fame here.

Register to Join Our 1st Community Seder This Thursday!
Jewish educators, students, and families invite the whole CPS community to our first Community Seder! A seder is a ritual meal that is part of the celebration of Passover, an important Jewish holiday in the spring. We welcome all members of the CPS community who are interested in learning about this tradition to join us.

Summer Jobs for Teens – Apply by Friday
The Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP) connects eligible teens to paid summer jobs in Cambridge and surrounding communities. This is a great opportunity for teens to get real world exposure to a variety of career paths, get some work experience and earn money!
Who is Eligible?
- Teens who are Cambridge Residents.
- Teens turning 14 years old by July 1,2024 and are age-eligible through the summer after completing high school.
- Teens must be eligible to work in the US in order to get paid.
Teens can apply online using the Youth Employment Trax platform, the deadline to apply is this Friday, April 26. Learn more about the MYSEP program here.

Our mental health partner, Cartwheel, is offering another free live webinar to share how adults can navigate discussing mental health and suicide prevention. It is easy to worry about saying the wrong thing or making things worse, however, research shows when it comes to talking about suicidality – talking is helpful, not harmful.
Join us for the free webinar ‘Finding the Words: How to effectively speak with kids and teens about mental health and suicide prevention’ to hear from Chris Smith, a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience. All the Right Notes For Our Gold Winning Orchestra at CRLS!
The Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Orchestra won GOLD at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Festival in Danvers earlier this month! It was the orchestra's first time participating at the MICCA Festival under the direction of Laura Umbro, and they were the only group to earn gold that day!
The festival host at Danvers High School expressed that the CRLS Orchestra was one of the best high school orchestras he'd ever heard and asked to share the recording with his ensemble as an example of what "real expression and dynamics mean."
