Dear Cambridge Community,
February is a short month but it is a very busy month for the Office of Student Services.
It is also transition month and we are placing an extra emphasis on celebrating and educating everyone about post school transition for students with disabilities. Post school transition is a part of the IEP process that officially begins at age 14; however, it is something that we should begin thinking about and discussing when students enter kindergarten. As parents, it is important that you understand post school transition planning to ensure that the decisions you make for your child is an informed decision beginning in the early elementary years. As educators, it is equally important for us to understand post school transition planning to ensure that all students have every opportunity for academic and social success to meet their goals post high school.
As many of you may know, I was named as the Superintendent of Sharon Public Schools last Wednesday. The past few days have been somewhat of a whirlwind for me as I am currently in the process of negotiating my contract with the Sharon School Committee. The decision to pursue the superintendency was not one that I took lightly but am committed to impact public education in such a way to ensure equity and access for all students. Cambridge has been very good to me and I will continue to be a part of the Cambridge community as a resident. It is my plan to remain in my current position through the remainder of the school year. The leadership team and I are continuing with business as usual.
I look forward to seeing you at our 2nd Annual Transition Fair on February 16.
Make It Great!!
