Speakfully: Incident Reporting

submit a reportAt CPS, we are dedicated to ensuring that we have a district that respects and embraces differences to create a community of care and belonging for everyone. One of the best ways to ensure that we do this is to be responsive to issues that arise, which negatively impact the experiences of our students and staff. Therefore, we launched Speakfully to provide students, staff, and caregivers with an avenue to submit an incident report online.
Speakfully is one option to report an incident. Students, caregivers, and staff are encouraged to report an incident directly to principals, assistant principals, deans, and any other educator.

What is Speakfully?
Speakfully is an online platform that allows students, caregivers, and staff to report incidents that occur within CPS. Anyone using Speakfully to report incidents has the option to include their name, or to make a report anonymously. In the platform, anyone making a report will be asked to answer a few questions about the incident. After the report is submitted online, it is immediately shared with the Superintendent’s Office and the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (OEIB), allowing us to take action as soon as possible.

Speakfully is hosted outside of CPS, which provides security in the submission process.

History
Based on student concerns about reporting structures that did not allow for anonymous reporting, in the 2022-23 school year, the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (OEIB) was charged with creating an incident reporting system that addressed those concerns.

After months of thoughtful planning and extensive stakeholder engagement, we launched Speakfully in May 2022. Stakeholder engagement included

  • Reviewing previous work conducted by CRLS student groups, including the Microaggressions Working Group and the Incident Reporting/Responding Design Team.
  • Collaborating with students, educators, and school and district leaders to gain their input on the incident reporting system.
  • Incorporating feedback received at School Committee meetings and other meetings with stakeholders.
  • Meeting with leaders from other districts to share best practices.
