Favorite Class at CRLS
History. I've always been interested in current events. Even more so, I love to learn about how current events are connected to and caused by the events of the past.

Favorite Teacher
I've had so many outstanding teachers at Rindge. If I had to choose though I would probably say Mr. Romanowski and Mrs. Otty have been my two favorites.

I've had the privilege of having English 10, English 11, and CM with Mr. Romanowski. He truly understands his students and the stresses they endure as high schoolers. He's very approachable and often quite funny which makes for engaging and productive class periods. In every one of his classes Mr. Romanowski incorporates a mindfulness time which allows students to take a step back from their fast-moving lives to relax.

Mrs. Otty cares deeply about each and every one of her students and is one of the nicest people in the building. In class she brings a joyous personality and can be quite funny and entertaining. Her Modern World History class is one of the most interesting courses you can take and it is ever more enhanced by Mrs. Otty's love for history and interacting with her students.

What are some of the out-of-school time (OST) programs that you participated in between grades 6 - 12?
West Cambridge Youth Center

How did being enrolled in any OST program(s) contribute to your success in and out of high school?
I spent most of my middle school afternoons at the West Cambridge Youth Center. Doing so allowed me to meet kids my age from all over Cambridge. This was especially important as I made the transition to high school because I already had a strong and diverse group of people that I knew making the move to CRLS with me.

What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
The people and the very supportive community! I loved playing in CRLS sporting events. During my time on the basketball court it was extremely evident how supportive and amazing this community truly is. The school offers so many opportunities for you to bond and come together with your peers on a larger scale and this is something I am very thankful for.

What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
The school offers a lifeguard certification course taught by Ms. Varella which few people know about. Outside of school this certification would cost hundreds of dollars but here at Rindge it is offered for free and can be used as gym credit. This is just one of the many hidden gems in the CRLS course catalog.

Advice to Incoming Freshmen
Don't listen to the people who say Freshman year doesn't matter... It does! Jump right into your classes, meet new people and have a blast. Go to as many school events as you can. The VPA performances are always outstanding and our athletic teams are so much fun to watch. Play sports, join clubs, and get to know your teachers, deans, and most importantly your guidance counselor. Enjoy and make the most of your high school experience as it will go by faster than you think!
