From the Principal

Parents, Guardians & Students,

Welcome back to HSEP for the 2020-2021 school year! We are ready to invite you back into our virtual classrooms and community beginning this Wednesday, September 16th. While we continue to operate with a great deal of uncertainty the HSEP team has been working hard for the past few weeks to create a consistent approach to remote learning that will provide stability and structure for our students. I hope the family conferences that you each had with your student’s advisor was helpful in making an initial connection and answered any pressing concerns you had heading into the school year. This communication will contain a great deal of information for you as we begin our remote journey together in just two days.

Our first week of school will be a half day schedule. Wednesday, September 16 will focus on reconnecting as a community and answering student questions about scheduling with their advisors. Thursday, September 17 will be additional time for connections within the student’s advisory and then students will work on their understanding of Google Classroom. Friday will wrap up the week with a Community Meeting and an overview of Google Calendar. On Monday, September 21 we will kick off with our normal schedule with academic classes beginning.

HSEP will be utilizing this website for all of its remote learning information. This will include all important information that you will need to kick off the school year. There is a parent resource page that we will be updating regularly to answer any questions that arise from technology to upcoming events. Students can also utilize this website to get quick access to their Google Classrooms. Please make sure to check back regularly as we will be providing updates as the year progresses. In the meantime, please find a link here to all of the Google Classroom information for students to start the year.

HSEP is committed to providing students with a rigorous academic environment during remote learning. As such, we are making specific changes to our expectations and I wanted to highlight a few to start the school year:

  • Student daily attendance will be tied to their presence in community meeting (Monday & Friday) or advisory (Tuesday through Thursday)
  • Students will be expected to attend each of their live class sessions within 5 minutes of the course beginning to be counted as present
  • Any student who misses multiple live sessions and or 1:1 meetings will require a parent meeting to take place. Students will also be mandated to attend study hall with a teacher from 3 - 4PM each day the following week.
  • Students will have to turn their work in and complete their assessments for each course by Friday at 6pm. Any work not turned in by then will count as an F for the week.

We are hoping to work together with our families this year to ensure a high level of participation for our students in remote learning. Please work with your advisor to raise any concerns and always feel free to reach out to me through email or phone.

I look forward to working with all of you this year and am excited to have our students back with us to kick things off this Wednesday,

Ryan Souliotis
