Students
participate in two of the three academic subjects daily. Each 90-minute
features an approximately 10:1 student: teacher ratio. Further, these
highly-qualified teachers primarily teach freshmen at CRLS. This
provides an opportunity for students to get to know both their
freshmen-year teachers in advance while meeting their future classmates.
Math
With
the district math curriculum being revised, the Rise Up math curriculum
will be centered on preparing these incoming freshmen for their ninth
grade math courses in Algebra. Further, the curriculum is interactive
and allows the students opportunities to practice their skills.
Science
This
year, the science curriculum will focus on energy usage, conservation
and climate change prevention. CRLS has provided a unique opportunity to
investigate the effects of building a green roof on a section of the
school. With research started by the winning team of this year’s Glocal
(Global + Local) Challenge, Rise Up students will learn and implement a
plan of action in this project-based learning model.
English
The
English department curriculum is also undergoing district-wide
renovations this year. Rise Up English will assist students with their
summer reading assignments. Further emphasis will be place on their
comprehension and their writing skills.
