Robert “Buck” Merrill will take over as Varsity Baseball Coach at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. The position was opened after longtime Head Coach, Mike Caron decided to step away to spend time with family.

Coach Merrill comes to Cambridge with a plethora of high school coaching experience, including seven years in total and coaching at all levels, Freshman, Junior Varsity and an Assistant at the varsity level. His most recent experience has been with Austin Preparatory High School, where Merrill worked directly with pitchers and catchers and helped them win a Division 3 State Title. The pitching staff under Merrill’s tutelage boasted a team ERA under 3.00. Prior to his stop at Austin Prep, Merrill coached at Melrose High School, Bacon Academy in Connecticut and Contoocook Regional in New Hampshire.
Merrill is very looking forward to take over the reigns at CRLS, “I’m honored and excited to be named the CRLS Head Baseball Coach. Cambridge has a long history of strong and competitive baseball teams. It is my hope to continue that tradition and provide a positive experience for my players.”
Merrill works in the Special Education Department in the Concord Public Schools at Sanborn Middle School. Prior to being in Concord, Merrill worked in the Melrose Public Schools.
“I find we are extremely fortunate to have Coach Merrill join us here in Cambridge. Throughout the interview process you could really feel his enthusiasm for both baseball and working with kids shine through. He has a wealth of experience and exhibited a great knowledge of the game as well his organization and preparation, which I am confident will help maintain our program’s successes and keep us on the path to improvement.
To replace a coach like Mike Caron is difficult. He put forward a great effort and a lot of time into making Cambridge Baseball a consistently competitive and successful program. We are all grateful for that Mike has done and feel that Coach Merrill will be able to build on that.” said, Tom Arria, Director of Athletics.
Coach Merrill will lead the Falcons this season as they compete in Dual County League, currently set to open up the season on April 5, 2019 at Newton South.
