Favorite subject at CRLS
Biology, history, and photography
Why is it your favorite subject?
"Biology is one of my favorite subjects at CRLS because in that class we learned a lot about life and biological functionings. It also was very fascinating to me so I genuinely enjoyed learning about it.
I have also always loved history classes. My interest started to grow in my freshman world history class because I had an amazing teacher (Ms. Simmons) and she really influenced my excitement about history. Throughout the many classes I have taken, I have learned a lot about global issues, have been exposed to a variety of perspectives, and had many engrossing experiences that I am very grateful to have had. Similarly to biology, I am interested and intrigued by historical events and the dynamics between countries/nations, which has made world history my overall favorite.
Photography has been my artistic outlet and the subject that I can more fully relax in. In other academic classes I have put so much pressure on myself to be perfect, but by taking many photo classes I learned that making mistakes and not being perfect is part of the artistic process. I have also found an amazing community within the photo department that I am extremely grateful for."
Favorite CRLS Staff Person
Ms. Milligan and Dr. Lam
What makes that staff person so special?
"Ms. Milligan has been such an amazing teacher, mentor, and supporter throughout my years in high school. She is a great photography teacher and she also has provided a comfortable environment for her students while pushing us to do our best work. I have learned so much not only about photography but also life lessons. I have been lucky enough to have a close relationship with her and the impact she has had on my life is unmeasurable.
Dr. Lam is such an amazing teacher. I took AP World History with Dr. Lam and it was extremely well taught and very interesting. Her teaching style and the class dynamic made me look forward to it every day (even though it was first period) and I learned so much. The structure and organization of the class and the topics we covered worked so well and I enjoyed the class so much. Dr. Lam's humor and the environment that she brought to the class also contributed to how fun it was. Overall, I credit Dr. Lam and AP World for furthering my interest in history and making me realize that I want to double major or minor in it."

N/A
What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
My favorite thing about CRLS is all of the opportunities and resources they provide. There so many clubs to join, there are many ways to get involved in the community, there are different levels of classes to choose from, and there are plenty of resources for RSTA and arts classes to be available. I am very grateful for the rigor that CRLS has and I am thankful for the ability to be a part of photography department while also challenging myself academically.
What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
I think that people unfamiliar with CRLS should know that CRLS offers so many opportunities for students to explore and involve themselves in. Although CRLS has a reputation of offering a lot of rigorous courses, there is so much more beyond academics that they provide.
What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?
You are only going to get out of your high school experience the amount of effort that you put in. If you invest yourself in your classes and activities, you will gain so much knowledge and valuable experiences that will benefit your after high school.
