Why is it your favorite subject?
I truly loved studying Computer Science and Information Technology at CRLS because the variety of classes offered here from the CS classes to Machine learning and IT have taught me so much about logic and problem-solving, which are essential for programming and troubleshooting. The classes were varied, each with its own structure and coding languages, keeping me engaged and eager to learn more. Seeing how powerful technology can be and the things you can do with it like making a website/app/game, making an autonomous car, or making your own AI model made the lessons exciting and relevant. The collaborative environment and encouragement from my teachers, especially Dr. Wu and Mr. McGlathery, made learning a lot of fun and engaging.

What makes that staff person so special?
There are countless teachers in my high school career that I am grateful to have had. All the teachers at CRLS, both those I had classes with and those I didn't, have contributed to my success in some way, whether by offering advice or helping me understand challenging concepts. However, Dr. Wu, Ms. Sandoval, and Mr. Weathersby have made an especially significant impact on my high school experience.

Mr. Weathersby, my guidance counselor, always had his door open for me whenever I needed someone to talk to. His advice and support were invaluable, helping me navigate the complexities of high school life and plan for my future. Mr. Weathersby provided a space where I could express my concerns, and his approach made a significant difference in my confidence and well-being. You can always find me in his office talking about updates in my life, food, or high school. I couldn't be more grateful for his support and the attention he gave to ensure I stayed on the right path.

Dr. Wu was my computer science and IT teacher for the majority of my technology classes. His enthusiasm for the subject, along with his mentoring, ignited my interest and enthusiasm for studying. I spent a lot of time in his classroom, not only doing assignments but also talking about life and getting advice. His commitment to education made difficult subjects interesting and approachable to everyone. Dr. Wu provided guidance that went above and beyond the classroom.

Ms. Sandoval, who teaches US History and AP US Government, provided constant encouragement and support, helping me stay motivated through challenging coursework. She was always ready to help, whether it was during her classes or when I needed feedback on my college essays. Her commitment to her student's success had a profound impact on my academic journey.

These three staff members are more than educators to me; they have been mentors and friends, offering wisdom and encouragement throughout my high school journey. Their dedication to their roles and their genuine care for my and other's well-being has left a lasting impression on me. I am deeply grateful for their contributions to my education and personal growth, and I will carry their lessons and support with me as I move forward.

Breakthrough and Work Force

How did being enrolled in any O.S.T. program(s) contribute to your success both in and out of high school? 
Both the Breakthrough and Work Force programs have been instrumental in shaping my overall success, both academically and personally. Participating in these programs has allowed me to acquire a wide range of skills and experiences that have significantly contributed to my growth. Breakthrough, in particular, played a crucial role from the enriching afterschool programs to the extensive college and career guidance, Breakthrough provided me with the tools and resources to navigate my educational journey effectively. The program's comprehensive support system helped me build a strong foundation, enhancing my academic performance and boosting my confidence.

Similarly, the Work Force program prepared me for the future in numerous ways. Each class introduced new concepts and practical skills, ranging from money management and professionalism to college preparation, resume writing, and practice interviews. These lessons were not only informative but also transformative, helping me develop essential life skills and a professional mindset. The hands-on approach and real-world applications of the Work Force program enabled me to grow into a more well-rounded individual.

What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
What I liked most about CRLS was the incredible range of opportunities available to students. From the numerous clubs to internships, CRLS provided countless paths to explore and grow as a person. The teachers and staff at CRLS are exceptional, and they all genuinely want you to succeed. If I could write about each teacher I had from my freshmen year, in the favorite section, I would have so many good things to say about each one of them. Their dedication and support created an environment that encouraged me to strive for excellence. CRLS helped me land internships at Audible Amazon and Harvard Law School, where I could apply what I learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios. These experiences deepened my interest in the field and showed me the practical value of my education, making my time at CRLS enriching.

What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
More students/families should know about the RSTA program and the dual-enrollment programs. It was through the RSTA program that I developed my interest in the CS field and landed an internship at Amazon Audible. While they take up more space in your schedule as you start taking the level 1,2,3 classes, they are worth it! The dual-enrollment program at CRLS has partnerships with other colleges in different subjects. This program lets you experience college-level classes while you are still in school.

What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?

• Stay organized and keep track of your assignments.
• Focus on building good study and time management habits.
• Take advantage of resources and support from teachers and staff.
• Get involved in clubs and extracurricular activities.
• Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
• Use freshman year to develop skills that will help you throughout high school.
