Favorite subject at CRLS
AP Comparative Government & Politics
Why is it your favorite subject?
Dr. Lam is a fantastic teacher and Comp Gov really got me interested in political science. The panel discussions, Parliament simulations, and presentations made the class engaging and fun -- a great way to learn about government and international relations.

Ms. Read, Mr. Kreuser, Mr. Porreca, Dr. Lam
What makes that staff person so special?
Ms. Read has mentored me since tenth grade history -- I had the opportunity to TA for her AP Psychology class, and really appreciated the dedication and passion she invested in every one of her students. She makes class creative and fun with simulations and activities that really engage kids with content. Mr. Kreuser & Mr. Porreca were my ninth grade English teachers; they made online school really fun, and they really cared for each student -- they invested so much time in my writing skills, and developed a personal connection with me too. Thanks for a great experience. Dr. Lam (as mentioned) is one of the best teachers I've met -- she really creates a well-rounded classroom experience. Dr. Lam (and her class) is a key reason I'm pursuing political science.

I captained the debate and Model UN teams and occasionally wrote for the Register Forum.
What were some of the out-of-school time (O.S.T) programs that you participated in anytime between grades 6-12?
Cambridge Pre-Debate Summer Program
How did being enrolled in any O.S.T. program(s) contribute to your success both in and out of high school?
Founding the debate summer program to recruit middle schoolers to high school debate was a great experience -- our team grew significantly, and we were able to revitalize debate at some local middle schools.
What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
Every extracurricular really forms a community -- I was mainly a part of competitive clubs like debate that centered around tournaments and conferences we aimed to win. But CRLS remained semi-competitive, putting some emphasis on skill-building and awards, while prioritizing the community aspect of the club. Above all, CRLS is a team and a community, even when competing.
What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
The experiences are probably more worth it than you'd expect -- I'd say if you're debating doing something, trying out a new club, meeting some new people, just do it and see what happens. That might fall under the advice category, but worth saying that CRLS is pretty open and welcoming.
What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?
Keep your expectations vague and get to know people.
