Favorite subject at CRLS
English
Why is it your favorite subject?
English is my favorite subject because I feel like there have been so many opportunities for me to have good conversations and read interesting things in those classes. I took English 10 and 11 with Mr. Scott, Playwriting with Mr. Cramp and African Literature with Ms. Labaze, and I can honestly say those were some of the best teachers, and experiences I ever had. I also feel like English has taught me the most about myself and how to properly communicate what I believe in to the rest of the world.
Favorite CRLS Staff Person
Joanne Farwell
What makes that staff person so special?
Joanne like backstage theater (tech) in general is the secret force behind the visual performing arts department (VPA). While she doesn't teach a class, she literally holds the keys to the most rooms in the basement including the furniture room, props closet and scene shop not to mention the power tools, costumes and lighting equipment. Without fail she manages to be everywhere at once and somehow teaches students not only how to do things but how to figure out how to do things themselves. She has boundless knowledge and has always been incredibly supportive of me.
Extracurricular activities, clubs, school-related activities
Stagecraft (student technical director and lights), Chamber Music Club, Mentoring, Charles River Clean Up
What were some of the out-of-school time (O.S.T) programs that you participated in anytime between grades 6-12?
N/A
How did being enrolled in any O.S.T. program(s) contribute to your success both in and out of high school?
N/A
What did you like most about CRLS? Why?
The people. One of the benefits of being in a bigger school is that there are so many opportunities to become friends with people who have different experiences than you do. As an extrovert I love talking to pretty much anyone about anything.
What is something people unfamiliar with CRLS should know about the school? Why?
Sometimes it feels like everyone who goes through CRLS has a different experience there which means it's hard to know what someone is going to find interesting. That said, two underrated highlights in my opinion are the TA Program (thank you Ms. Dolan!), and the dance program.
What advice would you give incoming freshmen about CRLS?
Work with your friends through hard classes. Try out new things that scare you. Get to know your teachers. Join tech! Put time into the things that are important and make you the happiest. Be kind to others and yourself.
